Includes 2nd, 3rd and 4th day lunch, all entrance fees and tickets, class fees, transportation. Not included: hotels, dinners, tips for the tour guide and driver. (A tip is customary, depending upon the service of course!)
Day 1: Airport Pickup
Upon your arrival in Beijing, our English-speaking tour guide will greet you and transport you to your hotel. This evening you will have the opportunity to rest up from your long journey to Beijing, or our tour guide can assist you with plans for the evening, maybe a stroll down Wangfujing’s night food street or bar-hopping at Houhai or Sanlitun?
Day 2: Hutong Rickshaw Tour - Kindergarten Visit - Tea with a Hutong Family - Drum and Bell Towers - The Forbidden City
An early start to a day filled with Chinese culture both past and present. We’ll pick you up at your hotel at 8 a.m. for a morning rickshaw hutong tour of the ancient alleyways that Beijingers have called home for centuries. You will have the opportunity to visit the home of a local family for tea and a talk, as well as a local kindergarten. Then enjoy a visit to the ancient Drum and Bell Towers, which helped keep track of time during the Ming Dynasty. After your hutong tour, you will visit the Forbidden City, the symbolic heart of China and the 600-year old former seat of power in the Middle Kingdom.
Day 3: Mutianyu Great Wall - Ming Tombs - Chinese Tea House and Ceremony
Another full day of immersion in Chinese culture with a visit to the final resting place of the Ming Dynasty emperors at the Ming Tombs and then to a beautiful section of the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu. We will pick you up at your hotel at 8 a.m. for the trip to the Ming Tombs, then we will treat you to a traditional and world-famous Chinese meal, Beijing Duck! After lunch, you will visit the awe-inspiring Mutianyu Great Wall, which has an optional cable car ride up and toboggan ride down (an extra 55 RMB per person round trip). We will have you back in Beijing in time for a traditional Chinese tea ceremony that will aptly demonstrate the place of importance that tea holds in Chinese culture. It is much more than just a drink, and the art and science of making a proper cup of Chinese tea as well as the accompanying elaborate ceremony is very impressive.
Day 4: The Summer Palace - Temple of Heaven - Acrobatics/Gong Fu/Beijing Opera Show (your choice)
We will pick you up at your hotel for a visit to the Summer Palace, a beautiful former summer resort for China’s emperors (and an empress). For lunch, we will treat you to a Chinese cultural traditional meal of “hot pot”, where diners cook their own food in a boiling broth right at the table. After lunch, a visit to the ancient center of religious activities in Beijing, the Temple of Heaven. That evening, more Chinese culture in the form of entertainment, with your choice of one of any of the spectacular performances of Acrobatics, Gong Fu (Kung Fu) or the traditional Beijing Opera Show.
