Sichuan Province is home to around 85% of the world’s surviving wild Giant Pandas, and the pleasant city of Chengdu is home to one of the world’s most important panda reserves and research centers. It’s a great place to see many Giant Pandas in a natural setting, where you can get close enough to hand-feed them and smell their breath (that part of the panda is not quite so charming.) Western Sichuan Province is also home to many different Tibetan subcultures, and this 8-day tour will have you up close and personal with pandas and panchens alike. The tour will take you through two contrasting Tibetan cultural areas, Anduo and Jiarong, that will highlight the dramatic differences between the ancient Kangba Tibetan culture and the Jiarong Tibetan culture. The landscape varies from small hills to enormous mountains more than 16,000 feet (5000 meters) tall. You will experience the broad Chengdu Plains, the intimate Kangding villages, the towering Zhuoduo Mountain Pass, the graceful Xindu Bridge, the holiness of Tagong, the grand Yak Valley, the unique Danba Shengju and Suo Slope, and the interestingly-named Sea Snail Valley Hot Springs, plus spend one night in the fantastic Wolong Giant Panda Reserve.

Traditional Tibetan housing in many different styles is scattered across the landscape, with the unique but simple white Tibetan towers a common feature.
